Haparanda Stadshotell

Haparanda, with Stadshotellet at its centre, at periods has been the European town with the fastest pulse rate.

This was especially true at the time when Haparanda was the only point of contact between the West and the large empires in the East – Russia, Persia and China.

Haparanda Stadshotell was opened amidst pomp and solemnity on 5 December, 1900.

The building was designed by the architects Fritz Ullrich and Eduard Hallqvist from Stockholm. The hotel was built in the classical style, the master builder and the carpenters coming from Sundsvall, Sweden, the stucco workers came from Italy, much of the building material was from Silesia, etc.

In the early 1970, a new town hall was built adjacent to the Stadshotell.

The old hotel building was completely restored in 1990. The following year the hotel was extended through the addition of several hotel rooms.
Today Haparanda Stadshotell has 92 rooms, conference facilities for 6-100 persons and five group rooms. The hotel has 500 restaurant seats in several dining rooms with different sizes and characters. The menu is of ontinental standard but we also offer local specialities. Most of the ingredients are locally produced like potatoes, fish, wegetables, berries, game and poultry.
